About the Recipe

Onigiri, or rice balls, are a cornerstone of Japanese cuisine, celebrated for their simplicity and versatility. These handheld delights consist of seasoned rice shaped into triangles or cylinders, often wrapped in nori (seaweed) and filled with savory ingredients. In 'Dragon Ball,' characters frequently enjoy onigiri, showcasing its role as a convenient and satisfying meal or snack. Making onigiri at home is straightforward, allowing for personalization with various fillings to suit your taste.

Tips for Success:

Rice Texture: Use Japanese short-grain rice for the best stickiness, ensuring the onigiri holds its shape.
Hand Preparation: Keep hands moist with salted water to prevent rice from sticking and to season the exterior lightly.
Filling Alternatives: If traditional fillings are unavailable, consider using canned tuna mixed with mayonnaise, sautéed mushrooms, or even cheese for a fusion twist.

  • 2 cups Japanese short-grain rice

  • 2 1/4 cups water

  • Salt for seasoning

  • Nori sheets (seaweed)

  • Fillings of choice (e.g., tuna mayo, pickled plum, grilled salmon)
